How Octal to Decimal Conversion Works

Octal is a base-8 number system that uses digits 0-7. Decimal is our standard base-10 system.

To convert octal to decimal:

1. Write down the octal number

2. Multiply each digit by 8 raised to the power of its position (starting from 0 on the right)

3. Sum all these values to get the decimal equivalent

Example: 17 (octal) = (1 × 8¹) + (7 × 8⁰) = 8 + 7 = 15 (decimal)
