How Octal to Decimal Conversion Works
Octal is a base-8 number system that uses digits 0-7. Decimal is our standard base-10 system.
To convert octal to decimal:
1. Write down the octal number
2. Multiply each digit by 8 raised to the power of its position (starting from 0 on the right)
3. Sum all these values to get the decimal equivalent
Example: 17 (octal)
= (1 × 8¹) + (7 × 8⁰) = 8 + 7 = 15 (decimal)
